Brighton City Airport’s Visitor and Information Centre

Based next to the Main Terminal, the Visitor and Information Centre offers a rare insight into the history of Brighton City Airport. The story starts in 1910 where Harold Piffard decided to create himself a flying base on a piece of grazing land, located nearby the river that runs between Lancing and Shoreham. Piffard was the first to courageously fly from Shoreham airfield in 1910. Fast forward to 1936, the airport’s terminal building officially opened on the 13th June, under the name ‘Brighton Hove and Worthing Joint Municipal Airport’.

Celebrating its 82nd year, join us to delve into the fascinating past of the UK’s oldest airport.

As well as exploring the insight into the construction of the airport and its history, visitors can explore models, classic photographs, research, maps, and books as well as speak to the volunteers who operate the centre to find out more information. In addition, our friendly volunteers will take you on a guided tour. These tours will take you around the site, showing the Grade II listed terminal building, hangar, and the runways. The guided tour offers plenty of insight into the iconic airport’s history, particularly during World War II when it was used as a base for the newly formed A27 Air Sea Rescue Squadron. In addition, you will learn about the current day airport and our operations. There will be wonderful photo opportunities for aviation enthusiasts who will get to see our aircraft on the airfield.

These tours take place during normal opening times and last around one hour. More information can be found here.

Gearooz was set up with a single goal in mind…to shake up the retail side of the DJ industry. They simply believed that DJ equipment could be sold better and that you, the customer, deserved a lot more. Plenty of other industries were already enjoying the modern ways of retail but it seemed that sound and lighting had been left behind. They now stock musical instruments as well as DJ equipment and lighting. Attention to detail and an open mind are now key points within the Gearooz family.
